Originally part of the route of the Portsmouth and Arundel Canal, the railway line was built in the canal bed. The canal ran clear across Portsmouth linking Langstone harbour — and the Chichester Canal — to the dockyard.

To me, this picture has a forties/fifties feel – ignoring the modern lamp posts, road markings, and skyline that is. Most likely this is down to the very slight red/blue tint I gave the picture during processing.
