Day Three, and the start of the spring turkey hunting season – All ready to hit the trail again at ‘Twin Falls Hollow’

Camped at ‘Deep Hollow’ – Day two. It rained through most of the night and into the morning. +3

Ready for the day’s hike – Midday, and just about to leave ‘Twin Falls Hollow.’

I received a request for a profile pic for my voluntary work, and I don’t like the goofy picture I’m using for my profile at work, so I got out the tripod, set up the camera, and asked Ginger to take some pictures and got both fixed.

Trip over, back at the trailhead, and a very modest 14 miles hiked with 962 ft. of elevation gain.

Checking out the rain – Apparently, the trees I’ve been using have a dip between them, which proceeded to fill with water, The ground on the downhill side was very soggy. Two-minute read, +4

Gary Camped to the north of ‘Deep Hollow’ Hercules Glades.

Day Two. The view from my hammock – Morning sunshine in the woods. One-minute read, +1

On the Pilot (Tower) Trail to the north of the Lower Pilot Knob. Cheesy grin indeed. What I didn’t realize then was that in a couple of hundred yards I’d walk straight past the old forest road I take to get to my ‘Deep Hollow’ campsite. I obviously realized my hat was in need of some TLC. It’s looking a whole lot better now. Two-minute read

Day One. Back on the trail – My first trip out since November – maybe that’s why my hat is looking a little neglected. Two-minute read, +2

Ginger fitting hinges – currently we are adding some high-level storage for ‘little used’ items.

Gary in the workshop – Hindsight being the gem that it is, I now know it was a huge mistake to make the doors and not get them ‘off the shelf.’ +3

Gary and Ginger, Christmas Day, 2021 – Like the shirt? I was wearing it, plus shorts, in honor of the unseasonably hot weather we were having. +1

Back at the trailhead – Trip over, and a modest 19.15 miles hiked and 2,000 ft. of elevation climbed. Time for a shower and a beard trim! And, of course, some end of trip thoughts. Two-minute read

Another backpacking fashion show – Not. Here I am all packed up, ready to head back to the trailhead and showing off what the well-dressed backpacker is wearing nowadays. One-minute read

Seven Miles – and just under a mile to go before I set up camp for the night – I ended up hiking a total of 7.76 miles with 730 ft. of elevation gained.

Lunch break by Long Creek – The Falls on Long Creek are a popular destination, so I normally stop a couple of hundred yards or so further downstream to keep away from people. Today was no different. Although it was deserted when I arrived, at least half a dozen people turned up while I was taking a break. Two-minute read, +2

Gary at the Devil’s Den East (Upper Pilot) cairn – I’m just about to take the Devil’s Den East (Upper Pilot) Trail over to Rock Spring Trail, and head down to Long Creek and The Falls. Plus some notes on yesterday’s hike and and encounter with some deer. Two-minute read

Gary at the Pole (Pete) Hollow cairn, Hercules Glades Wilderness.

Hike over – back at the Tower Trailhead.
