Welcome to Breakfast in America

I’m a Brit who unexpectedly emigrated to the USA in 2008, and this is my photo journal.

It’s an eclectic mix of things; there’s no guiding theme or topic. It is whatever catches my attention, what I’ve been thinking, doing, or piques my interest. Currently that’s mainly backpacking and clearing some of the backlog on my ‘honey-do’ list.

Memories

A dozen pictures, picked at random from my favorite memories. You can see my portfolio here.

Workshop Bling

Workshop Bling — I finally got around to adding some drawer pulls onto the drawers in the workshop/garage.

‘Spring Hollow’

‘Spring Hollow’ — I decided to camp above the big rock formation on the right. 2

Blessing of the Animals #2

Part 2 in which Getzger is Blessed, has a falling out with his friend Fara, and meets a bunny.

A fleeting burst of sunshine

A fleeting burst of sunshine. Right place, right time. A lucky shot as the sun shone for just a minute.

Decay

Decay – Leaves, shells and a stick covered with frost, and some monofilament fishing line leading to an unseen dead bird in the water.

Mist after rain

Mist after rain — After yesterday’s rain last night and this morning were very misty.

Blue Ball

Blue Ball – Something different for a change … I was sitting at the kitchen table entranced by the play of light filtering through the trees and the kitchen window mesh screen. The shadows were forming wonderful dancing patterns on a blue (lacrosse) ball Ginger had left on the table. Video: 1 2

Our First Wilderness Hike

Our First Wilderness Hike. If we were going to give backpacking a go we thought it might be an idea to visit a wilderness first and discover what we were letting ourselves in for. 4 12

    Day Thirteen

Raymond Pool from the Raymond Observation Tower. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Delaware. Road trip, November ’24.

We plan to head down the Delaware and Maryland coast, cut across Virginia, and visit North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and hence back home to Missouri. We’ve no idea how long that’ll take, but I have a dental appointment on November 27. So, we’ll be back before then!

After three days traveling followed by a very busy four days, we were ready to just crash. We stopped for three days in a hotel on the outskirts of Philadelphia to regroup and make some outline plans for our route home.

During our stay I spotted this picture of the Beaver Moon from our hotel room.

    Day Twelve

We drove to Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and visited the Mercer Museum. After spending several hours there, we set off toward Delaware, stopping for the night in New Castle.

We’re off on our travels again. This time, it is to a four-day business event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Following this, we will take a slow, as yet undecided, route home.

    Day One

Our trip started with a diversion as the I-44 was closed due to flooding. We managed to find a quiet detour with almost no traffic on it. Crossing the Gasconade river was interesting, as the river was almost up to the bridge deck (I should have stopped and taken some pictures). Once back on the I-44 it was an easy (but long) drive to Indianapolis.

    Day Two

We drove from Indianapolis to our hotel on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Day Three

Today we are going to tour some museums, and tomorrow we head off to Lancaster, and the event.

We were staying at the cottage this past weekend, so I wasn’t expecting to be returning here anytime soon. But Jim needed some tests done in Springfield (all okay) and wouldn’t be able to drive home. I volunteered to drive, and now here I am!

I’ll drive them back to Springfield tomorrow for another appointment, and they’ll be able to get themselves home from there.

I took a break from looking at all the cool cars to watch some trout fishing below the mill pond.
