Welcome to Breakfast in America

I’m a Brit who unexpectedly emigrated to the USA in 2008, and this is my photo journal.

It’s an eclectic mix of things; there’s no guiding theme or topic. It is whatever catches my attention, what I’ve been thinking, doing, or piques my interest. Currently that’s mainly backpacking and clearing some of the backlog on my ‘honey-do’ list.

Memories

A dozen pictures, picked at random from my favorite memories. You can see my portfolio here.

Near Olga, State Highway Z

Near Olga, State Highway Z – I was stopped twice while taking this picture. Once by some locals in a passing truck, and a few minutes later by the property’s owner. 2

Camped in ‘Twin Falls Hollow’

Camped in ‘Twin Falls Hollow’ – I’ve not camped in this spot for a while. Recently I’ve been bushwhacking further down the hollow where the sides are not quite so steep. But the views here are much nicer, and I like the little rock-shelf tables I can use as mini kitchen tables. 4

Waking Up (365: 29)

Waking Up (365: 29) – In the summer I sleep in the garden. In October I vowed to spend one night a month sleeping out and last night was February’s turn.

Reeds

Reeds — Assateague State Park, Maryland.

Clouds

Clouds – I was hoping for a nice, as in flaming oranges and yellows, sunset. It didn’t happen, but this cloud formation and an otter made up for it.

Decay

Decay – Leaves, shells and a stick covered with frost, and some monofilament fishing line leading to an unseen dead bird in the water.

Working with AI is like working with a very polite, ingratiating, savant teenager who has odd memory problems.

  • Furnace Closet refurb complete

No more green paint, and the many years of scratches, scrapes and various holes drilled in the walls have been patched.

  • What hole in the wall?

Four days later, and it’s all fixed. I also patched the rest of the walls, the ceiling, and repainted the lot. The Dyson battery & charger holder is also in place.
